Powerline Technician

Summary

Milton Hydro is seeking a Powerline Technician to join their team, reporting to the Supervisor of Operations. The role involves the construction, maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of both overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. A key aspect of this position is the requirement to perform emergency call-out and on-call duties, with the ability to be on-site within 45 minutes of a call. Key responsibilities include performing live line work on systems up to 27.6 kV, erecting poles, building and repairing underground cables, working within substations, and installing conductors. The technician will also be responsible for mentoring apprentices, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently, participating in safety meetings, and maintaining compliance with company standards and regulations, including the utility work protection code. Candidates must possess a MEARIE Group Journeyperson Power Line Technician Certificate or an equivalent qualification. Full certification in the Ontario Utility Work Protection Code is required, or the ability to obtain it within six months. Applicants should have a strong working knowledge of Electrical Utility Safety Rules, be proficient with trade tools, and hold a valid Class DZ driver's license (ARZ preferred). The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to work at heights and in all weather conditions.
