Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 9, 2026

SweetJobs is a Canadian job search service operated from Ontario. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It is written to comply with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws.

By using SweetJobs, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. What We Collect

We collect only the information we need to run the service.

Information You Provide

  • Account information — your email address and a password. Passwords are stored only in a one-way encrypted form; we never see or store the plain text.
  • Profile and preferences — your time zone, the pension plan you're interested in, optional onboarding answers (such as age range, employment status, and how you heard about us), and your alert and email preferences.
  • Activity on the service — saved searches, saved jobs, search history, and the jobs you view.
  • Subscription information — our payment processor receives your payment details directly. We store only the resulting customer and subscription identifiers.
  • Communications — messages you send to support, and your responses to surveys or feedback requests.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Session data — a standard session cookie keeps you logged in.
  • Request metadata — IP address, browser type, referring page, and similar technical information. Used for security, rate limiting, and diagnostics.
  • Pre-signup analytics — when you browse without an account, we record activity against a privacy-preserving identifier that rotates daily and cannot be reversed back to you. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, fingerprinting, or any cross-site tracking.

Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not store your credit card or banking details. Payments are handled directly by our payment processor.
  • We do not buy personal information from data brokers.
  • We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Operate your account, authenticate you, and let you save searches and jobs.
  • Show you relevant jobs based on your pension plan and preferences.
  • Send transactional emails — verification codes, password resets, billing receipts, and job alert digests.
  • Bill you, if you have a paid subscription.
  • Detect abuse, prevent fraud, and keep the service secure.
  • Improve the service using usage data.

We will only send you marketing emails if you have explicitly opted in, and you can opt out at any time from your account settings or by using the unsubscribe link in any such email.

3. Who We Share It With

We share the limited information we have about you only with the third-party service providers we need to operate SweetJobs. We do not sell or rent your information. We do not enrich information you have shared with us to build a shadow profile associated with you.

These providers help us with:

  • Hosting and storage — running the application and database that hold your account.
  • Email delivery — sending the transactional and alert emails you receive.
  • Payment processing — billing your subscription. Your payment details are entered directly with the payment processor and never pass through our servers.
  • Conversion measurement — if you arrived on SweetJobs through a paid advertisement, we may share a one-way encrypted hash with a signup or purchase event with the relevant ad platform. The shared value cannot be reversed back to your email and is used only to measure ad effectiveness.

We require our service providers to handle your information confidentially and only for the purposes we engage them for. We may also disclose information when required to do so by Canadian law, court order, or other valid legal process.

We do not share any of your personal information with employers. When you click through to apply for a job, you leave SweetJobs and become subject to the employer's own privacy practices.

4. Where Your Data Lives

SweetJobs and the database that holds your account are hosted in Canada. Some of the service providers described in Section 3 — for example, our email and payment processors — may handle limited information outside Canada in the course of providing their services.

5. How Long We Keep It

  • Account data — for as long as your account exists.
  • Email verification codes and password reset tokens — expire automatically (typically within an hour) and are then purged.
  • Pre-signup analytics identifiers — rotate daily, after which they are permanently de-identified.
  • Server logs — rotated and deleted on a rolling basis.

When you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly anonymize your personal data, your saved searches, your saved jobs, your search history, and your viewed-jobs history. Some records (such as billing receipts) may be retained where required by Canadian tax and accounting law.

6. Your Rights

Under PIPEDA, you can:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Withdraw consent for optional processing — for example, by turning off alert or marketing emails in your account settings.
  • Delete your account and have your personal data removed. You can do this yourself from your profile page; deletion requires confirmation with your password.
  • Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca if you believe we have handled your information improperly.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address shown on our website. We aim to respond within 30 days.

7. Security

We protect your information with industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, one-way password hashing, hardened session cookies, account lockout after repeated failed login attempts, and tightly controlled access to our systems.

No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep yours safe and we will notify you promptly if a breach affects your data.

8. Cookies

SweetJobs uses only the cookies it needs to operate — a session cookie to keep you logged in, an optional remember-me cookie if you select that option at login, and a security token cookie to protect form submissions. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites.

9. Children

SweetJobs is built for working adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If a change is material, we will give reasonable notice — by email or through the service — before it takes effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.

11. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or about how we handle your personal information, please contact us at the email address provided on our website.
